Job Title
Module Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and validate iPhone display modules and optical subsystems. Lead cross-functional engineering teams and supplier interactions to define specifications, implement validation plans, and support ramp to mass production.
Experience Level
Entry-level β requires a Master's degree plus 1 year of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Design iPhone display modules and define optical specifications and characterization metrics.
- Own and coordinate multi-functional teams across optical, electrical, mechanical, process and panel design disciplines.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for display suppliers and oversee manufacturing, assembly, and fabrication processes.
- Develop and implement validation plans, testing methods, and measurement procedures for optical components, modules, and systems.
- Build prototypes, integrate hardware and software components, and execute experiments to validate system designs.
- Lead failure analysis and FMECA to identify and close engineering issues on project schedule.
- Develop software for data acquisition, hardware control, automation, and statistical analysis.
- Perform hands-on electro-optical characterization using bench-top and industry-standard measurement systems and support product launch and production ramp activities.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Experience with optics, solid-state physics, and display technologies (including OLED and TFT); hands-on optical experiments.
- Experience with radiometric and photometric measurement equipment, color science, color calibration, and display metrology standards.
- Optical design and CAD experience, including SolidWorks and Zemax for optical simulation.
- Optical metrology experience with spectrophotometers, colorimeters, CCD/camera sensors, wavefront sensors, and gauge R&R.
- Hands-on failure analysis tools such as focused ion beam (FIB), optical coherence tomography (OCT), scanning electron microscope (SEM), spectrometers, and class IV lasers.
- Programming and data analysis: Python (Pandas), MATLAB, JMP, Mathematica; automation with LabVIEW, VISA, and Git.
- Hardware control and automation experience on x86 and ARM architectures.
- Systems engineering skills (DOE, FMECA) and experience translating requirements into functional specifications and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Experience working with external vendors and global supply chains to deliver customized optical components or modules.
- Experience with semiconductor mass-production processes such as Fine Metal Mask, Ink Jet Print, evaporation and encapsulation.
Preferred qualifications: Not specified.
Education Requirements
Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, plus 1 year of relevant experience (as stated in Minimum Qualifications).
