Modem HW Design Engineer — AI-Driven Next-Gen Modem Hardware Development
QualcommJob Title
Modem HW Design Engineer — AI-Driven Next-Gen Modem Hardware Development
Role Summary
Join an advanced modem hardware design team focused on integrating AI-driven methodologies, GenAI and ML-assisted flows, and agentic-AI automation into next-generation modem ASIC development. The team delivers modem and RF transceiver solutions across product portfolios.
The role combines specification and micro-architecture definition, RTL development, and architectural optimization for area, power, and performance. The engineer will collaborate with verification, modeling, physical implementation, system, RF, firmware, and software teams to deliver first‑time‑right silicon.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typical experience expectations vary by degree: PhD with ~4+ years, MS with ~5+ years, or BS with ~6+ years of relevant engineering experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Define specifications, architecture, and micro-architecture for modem datapaths and subsystems.
- Develop and maintain RTL (design and coding) for modem ASIC blocks and datapath components.
- Optimize designs for area, power, performance, and timing closure.
- Work with verification, system modeling, and physical implementation teams to ensure first‑pass silicon quality.
- Collaborate with RF, firmware, and software teams to integrate hardware into full-system designs.
- Apply GenAI/ML and agentic-AI automation to accelerate design flows and improve productivity.
- Participate in design reviews, synthesizability and lint checks, clock-domain crossing analysis, and low-power design practices.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Proven RTL coding and logic design experience (Verilog/SystemVerilog) for wireless modem ASICs or custom datapath/DSP components.
- Strong knowledge of C/C++ and SystemC for modeling and verification tasks.
- Experience with synthesis flows, industry lint tools, clock-domain crossing (CDC) methodologies, and low-power design techniques.
- Background in wireless or wireline modem technology, DSP, or communication systems; familiarity with 4G/5G physical-layer concepts is a strong plus.
- Experience with advanced CMOS process nodes (ultra-deep sub-micron, e.g., 4nm and below) and associated physical-design constraints.
- Experience applying Generative AI, ML, or agentic-AI techniques to engineering workflows.
- Proficiency in Unix/Linux shell scripting and one or more scripting languages (Python or Perl); familiarity with Makefiles and XML.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and critical-thinking skills.
- Nice-to-have: familiarity with System-level verification, SystemVerilog UVM, and industry-specific toolchains for modem development.
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field — or equivalent practical experience. The posting explicitly specifies degree-plus-experience combinations: BS + ~6 years, MS + ~5 years, or PhD + ~4 years of relevant engineering experience. "Related field" and "equivalent practical experience" language are accepted.
