Modem Hardware Design Verification Engineer (Staff)
QualcommJob Title
Modem Hardware Design Verification Engineer (Staff)
Role Summary
Join an advanced verification team developing next-generation modem hardware and verification flows that integrate GenAI/ML-assisted and agentic-AI automation. The role focuses on planning and executing verification for complex baseband and subsystem designs to achieve first-time-right silicon.
The engineer will work with RTL, firmware, and system teams to build reusable verification environments, improve coverage closure, and accelerate debug and regression throughput.
Experience Level
Senior (Staff-level). Preferred 5+ years industry verification experience; minimum qualifications reference 4+ years with a Bachelor's, 3+ with a Master's, or 2+ with a PhD.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include defining verification plans, implementing environments, and using AI/ML tools to improve verification efficiency.
- Define and execute verification plans for modem and subsystem RTL.
- Design, implement, and maintain reusable UVM/OVM testbenches and verification environments.
- Develop constrained-random and directed tests, assertions, and coverage models; drive coverage closure.
- Integrate and apply GenAI/ML or agentic-AI workflows for test generation, regression optimization, and automation.
- Collaborate with RTL designers, firmware, and system architects to resolve bugs and close verification gaps.
- Use simulation acceleration, formal tools, and HW/SW co-verification where appropriate.
- Automate verification flows and regression frameworks using scripting and build tools.
- Perform debug, root-cause analysis, and performance verification for complex designs.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; followed by concise nice-to-have items.
- Hands-on constrained-random verification experience using SystemVerilog with UVM/OVM, including functional/code/assertion coverage.
- Strong verification planning, testbench architecture, assertion development, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in RTL languages and software: Verilog/VHDL, C/C++, SystemC.
- Scripting and automation experience: Python, Perl, Unix/Linux shell scripting, Makefiles, XML.
- Experience applying Generative AI, ML, or agentic-AI techniques to verification automation or test generation.
- Experience with simulation acceleration, formal verification, and HW/SW co-verification.
- Strong object-oriented programming skills and exposure to RTL design or RTL debug.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Nice-to-have: Background in wireless/wireline modem technology, DSP or communications systems; familiarity with 4G/5G 3GPP physical layer standards.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field -- or equivalent practical experience. Minimum experience guidance in the posting: 4+ years with a Bachelor's, 3+ years with a Master's, or 2+ years with a PhD. (Preferred: BS or MS with 5+ years relevant industry experience.)
