MMIC Design Intern
Role Summary
Internship within the Defense & Aerospace Products MMIC design team in the High Performance Analog business group. The role provides hands-on experience in design, simulation, and measurement of MMICs (GaAs/GaN) supporting power amplifiers, low-noise amplifiers, switches, attenuators, phase shifters, and related RF blocks.
Work is project-driven; assignments and responsibilities vary with business needs and intern capability.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship for students currently enrolled in graduate programs; no prior years-of-experience requirement specified.
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities may include:
- Design MMIC circuits in GaAs and/or GaN to meet performance, size, cost, and schedule constraints.
- Simulate and perform layout for RF integrated circuits and subsystems.
- Partner with technicians to set up and perform RF measurements and verification.
- Work with microwave test equipment such as signal generators, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, load-pull setups, power supplies, and power meters.
- Develop or adapt scripts and automation within simulation or test environments.
- Contribute to documentation and final presentations to business leaders.
Requirements
Core requirements and preferred skills.
Must-have:- RF/microwave and analog integrated-circuit coursework or hands-on experience.
- Exposure to RF measurement equipment and test procedures.
- Proficiency with common tools such as Microsoft Office; familiarity with Keysight ADS or similar simulation environments is acceptable.
- Scripting experience (Python or similar) to support simulation or test automation.
- Strong written and verbal communication and effective organization skills.
- US citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance; the position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
- Experience with ADS, Microwave Office, HFSS, Momentum, Axiem, Sonnet.
- Familiarity with 3D CAD, mechanical FEA, Matlab, and load-pull techniques.
Education Requirements
Currently enrolled in an accredited Master's (MS) or PhD program in Electrical Engineering, with a minimum GPA of 3.5. Internship program is targeted at MS or PhD students.
