ML/AI Junior Compiler Engineer
NXP SemiconductorsJob Title
ML/AI Junior Compiler Engineer
Role Summary
As a Compiler Engineer on the Global Compiler Team, you will develop ML/AI compiler features and toolchain support for embedded automotive SoCs. The team provides compiler technologies for ARM and RISC-V cores to enable pre-silicon and production software for NXP system-on-chip platforms.
You will collaborate with architecture and software teams and a worldwide development group to design, implement and deploy compiler-based model optimizations and target-specific features.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Junior — typically 1+ years professional experience in compiler technologies; an early-career engineering role.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include designing and implementing compiler features for ML/AI model optimization and supporting embedded targets.
- Design and implement ML/AI compiler technologies and optimization passes using C++ and LLVM/MLIR.
- Lower and optimize models from frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) into efficient intermediate representations for ARM and RISC-V targets.
- Implement graph-level optimizations such as fusion, tiling, and scheduling, and integrate them into optimization/code-generation pipelines.
- Collaborate with CPU/core architects and internal tool consumers to enable target-specific compiler features.
- Contribute to testing, deployment and maintenance of NXP-specific compiler features across the toolchain.
- Participate in and contribute to relevant open-source compiler projects as needed.
- May perform security-related tasks tied to certification processes for certain assignments.
Requirements
Must-have skills and desirable qualifications.
- Must-have: 1+ years experience with compiler technologies (LLVM/MLIR, LLVM IR, Clang, pass frameworks, optimization pipelines, code generation, linkers).
- Must-have: Strong programming skills in C++ and Python.
- Must-have: Experience with ML frameworks and software stacks (examples: PyTorch, TensorFlow, ONNX, MLIR, TVM, XLA, TensorRT).
- Must-have: Knowledge of graph compiler pass optimizations and lowering ML models to efficient IR; embedded systems programming experience.
- Must-have: Effective communication skills and experience working with distributed/remote teams.
- Desirable: Contributions to open-source projects; direct experience enabling ARM or RISC-V compiler support for embedded/automotive targets.
- Desirable: Prior exposure to safety- or security-related tooling for certified environments.
Education Requirements
University degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering; coursework or exposure to Machine Learning, Edge AI, and Embedded Systems is expected.
