ML/AI Compiler Engineer
NXP SemiconductorsJob Title
ML/AI Compiler Engineer
Role Summary
As a Compiler Engineer on the Global Compiler Team, you will develop and maintain ML/AI compiler toolchains and features for NXP embedded processors, enabling efficient inference on ARM and RISC‑V platforms. The role involves collaborating with hardware architects, ML researchers, and worldwide development teams to optimize model lowering, code generation, and end‑to‑end performance for automotive SoCs.
Experience Level
Mid-level — typically requires around 5+ years of professional experience in compiler technologies and ML compiler development.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Design and implement ML/AI compiler technologies and optimizations for embedded hardware using C++ and LLVM/MLIR.
- Develop compiler features targeting ARM and RISC‑V cores, including code generation and optimization passes.
- Implement graph‑compiler passes for model lowering (PyTorch/TensorFlow to IR), fusion, tiling, and scheduling.
- Profile and analyze generated code using simulators and profilers to improve code generation quality and performance.
- Collaborate with hardware architects, ML researchers, and global teams to define and integrate compiler features.
- Contribute to both internal toolchains and upstream open‑source projects where appropriate.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- 5+ years of production experience with compiler technologies (LLVM/MLIR, LLVM IR, Clang, pass framework, optimization pipelines, code generation).
- Experience with ML frameworks and stacks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, ONNX, XLA, TVM, TensorRT).
- Production-quality C++ and Python coding experience.
- Experience optimizing graph compilers for AI workloads and lowering models into efficient IR.
- Knowledge of computer architecture (caches, pipelines, ISAs) and embedded systems constraints.
- Experience using profiling, simulation, and analysis tools to guide compiler optimizations.
- Good communication skills and experience working with distributed/remote teams.
- Experience contributing to open-source projects (preferred).
Education Requirements
University degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, with exposure to Machine Learning, Edge AI, and Embedded Systems.
