ML/AI Compiler Engineer
NXP SemiconductorsJob Title
ML/AI Compiler Engineer
Role Summary
As a member of the Global Compiler Team you will design and implement ML/AI compiler features and toolchains to enable high‑performance inference on NXP embedded processors and automotive SoCs. The role focuses on compiler development (LLVM/MLIR), model lowering and optimization, and collaboration with hardware architects, ML researchers, and global development teams.
Experience Level
Mid-level — typically requires 5+ years of professional experience in compiler technologies and ML compiler development.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include designing compiler features and optimizing ML models for embedded hardware and production deployment.
- Design and implement AI/ML compiler technologies for embedded hardware using C++ and LLVM/MLIR.
- Develop compiler features for ARM and RISC‑V CPU cores, including optimization pipelines and code generation.
- Lower ML models (PyTorch, TensorFlow) into efficient IR and implement graph‑level optimizations (fusion, tiling, scheduling).
- Analyze generated code with simulators, profilers, and analysis tools to improve code generation quality and performance.
- Collaborate with hardware architects, ML researchers, and worldwide development teams to integrate compiler features into the toolchain.
- Support deployment and maintenance of NXP‑specific compiler tool features for pre‑silicon and production software development.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for the role.
- 5+ years professional experience in compiler technologies: LLVM/MLIR, LLVM IR, Clang, pass frameworks, optimization pipelines, code generation, and linkers.
- Experience with ML frameworks and stacks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, ONNX, MLIR, XLA, TVM, or TensorRT and lowering models into compiler IR.
- Production-quality C++ and Python programming skills.
- Experience with graph compiler pass optimization for AI workloads and graph-level optimizations (fusion, tiling, scheduling).
- Embedded systems programming experience and understanding of computer architecture (caches, pipelines, instruction set architectures).
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills, and ability to work effectively with remote/global teams.
- Ability to analyze complex compiler codebases and deliver concise, timely solutions.
- Nice-to-have: experience contributing to open-source compiler projects and prior work on automotive SoCs or silicon enablement.
Education Requirements
University degree (Bachelor's) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience acceptable.
