Mixed-Signal, Sr Principal Design Engineer
Cadence Design SystemsJob Title
Mixed-Signal, Sr Principal Design Engineer
Role Summary
Senior mixed-signal design engineer for physical IP used in industry-standard high-speed serial links. Work on analog and mixed-signal circuit design, verification, and post-silicon validation within a small team developing PHY/IP blocks.
Deliver designs from architectural specification through silicon bring-up, coordinate with digital teams for functional/performance closure, and contribute to project leadership and test-plan execution.
Experience Level
Senior β position targets experienced engineers (see Education Requirements for degree/years guidance).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include circuit design, verification, and test support for high-speed mixed-signal IP.
- Develop mixed-signal circuits from high-level architecture to tapeout-ready designs.
- Define and execute mixed-signal verification flows and methodologies.
- Create and run post-silicon test plans; perform silicon bring-up and debugging.
- Collaborate with digital design teams to achieve functional and performance closure.
- Build functional models and algorithm prototypes to evaluate architectures.
- Automate design and verification tasks using scripting and tool flows.
- Act independently to complete tasks and provide technical leadership on projects.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in this role.
- Strong understanding of mixed-signal circuit design fundamentals and verification flows.
- Experience with Cadence analog design environment.
- Familiarity with basic signal-processing concepts used in mixed-signal systems.
- Experience developing functional models (e.g., SystemVerilog, Verilog-A) or algorithm prototypes.
- Good scripting ability for automation (e.g., Python, Perl) and practical tooling experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Serial-link design techniques and architectures.
- Experience with data converters (ADCs/DACs), PLLs/DLLs, or CDRs.
- MATLAB or C for architecture development and modeling.
- Silicon validation and lab bring-up experience.
Education Requirements
Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of mixed-signal industry experience, or M.S. in Electrical Engineering with 7+ years of mixed-signal design industry experience. (Posting specifies EE degrees and the associated years of experience.)
