Job Title
Mid/Senior FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Work on FPGA development for next-generation software-defined radios and digital communications systems. The role covers FPGA architecture, DSP, high-speed interfaces, integration with RF/analog/embedded subsystems, and system-level verification in a multidisciplinary engineering environment based in Carlsbad, CA.
Experience Level
Mid-level to Senior. Mid-level: 4+ years of relevant FPGA design experience. Senior: 8+ years of relevant FPGA design experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include design, integration, verification, and documentation across FPGA and system-level development.
- Design, implement, simulate, and verify FPGA/programmable-logic solutions for software-defined radio and digital communications systems.
- Develop FPGA architectures for digital signal processing, data movement, control logic, and high-speed interfaces.
- Integrate FPGA designs with RF, analog, digital, and embedded software subsystems.
- Collaborate with systems, software, hardware, and test engineers to translate requirements into robust implementations.
- Participate in board bring-up, lab debugging, waveform integration, and system-level verification.
- Produce and maintain design documentation, interface definitions, test plans, and verification artifacts.
- Troubleshoot and optimize performance in prototype and production environments.
- Contribute to engineering reviews and technical trade studies across programs.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred technical qualifications.
-
Must-have: 4+ years (mid) or 8+ years (senior) of FPGA design experience.
-
Must-have: Experience with AMD/Xilinx toolchains (Vivado, Vitis) and Zynq/rfSoC platforms.
-
Must-have: Proficiency in VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog; FPGA simulation, timing closure, and hardware debugging.
-
Must-have: Solid understanding of digital design fundamentals (clock-domain crossing, reset strategy, pipelining, high-speed interfaces).
-
Must-have: Hands-on experience with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers) and board bring-up.
-
Must-have: Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary product development environment and strong written/verbal communication skills.
-
Must-have: U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain/hold a security clearance if required (ITAR requirement).
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with digital signal processing and communications systems (modem/waveform functions, channel coding, FFTs, filtering).
-
Nice-to-have: Familiarity with embedded processors, SoC-based FPGA platforms, hardware verification, or qualification-style testing.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience in aerospace, satellite, defense, or SWaP-constrained/extreme-environment applications.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is required.
