Memory Layout Design Engineer

Role Summary

Work on memory macro and chip-level physical layout for advanced process nodes, delivering production-quality layouts and physical verification for SoC integration. The role involves floor-planning, verification, documentation of layout methodologies, and cross-team coordination.

Experience Level

Senior - requires significant experience (see Education Requirements for specific years). Typically 10+ years of relevant industry experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

• Implement memory layouts following process rules and company guidelines for advanced nodes (7nm–2nm).
• Manage layout floor-planning, scheduling, and deliverable timelines.
• Perform and oversee physical verification (LVS, DRC, ERC, antenna, electromigration) and resolve violations.
• Plan signal and power routing consistent with RC and memory architecture requirements.
• Coordinate with SoC, library, and verification teams; lead technology reviews and document layout methodologies and flows.
• Mentor and train junior layout engineers; lead layout teams and manage projects.
• Develop or adopt layout automation and scripting to improve productivity.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

• Proficiency with Cadence layout tools (Virtuoso Layout / Virtuoso XL / EXL) and schematic capture.
• Experience with Calibre physical verification tools; familiarity with Hercules is a plus.
• Strong memory layout design experience and proven physical verification skills (LVS, DRC, ERC, antenna, electromigration).
• Demonstrated experience in floor-planning, hierarchical layout, and chip integration.
• Deep knowledge of layout topology and RC-driven routing for memory.
• Proven project leadership, team mentoring, and schedule management skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate across teams in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with memory compilers.
• Experience with AI-assisted layout, layout automation, and SKILL or other scripting languages.

Education Requirements

Minimum: Bachelor's degree with 12 years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with over 10 years of relevant experience. No specific field of study or certifications were specified.
