Memory Designer
Role Summary
Design and implement low-power, high-performance, area-efficient embedded memory circuits and architectures for SoC applications. Join the Memory IP team to deliver memory IP used across CPU, GPU, modem and camera subsystems.
Work closely with CAD, layout, and SoC integration teams to meet power/performance/area (PPA) targets and support verification and tapeout activities. Position located in San Diego, CA.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typically requires several years of relevant ASIC/memory design experience (see Requirements). Candidates with 2+ years of direct memory design experience - academic or professional - may be considered.
Responsibilities
Own design tasks from circuit implementation through verification and handoff; collaborate across teams to meet PPA goals.
- Develop custom digital circuits for high-speed, low-power SRAM designs.
- Perform schematic capture and circuit simulation for major blocks; execute margin and corner verifications.
- Plan and supervise layout; work with physical designers on tight pitch, matched layouts.
- Coordinate with CAD teams for full-chip verification, model generation, and integration.
- Collaborate with SoC teams (CPU, GPU, modem, etc.) to define memory PPA targets and interfaces.
- Apply variation-aware design techniques for advanced CMOS and FinFET nodes.
- Support tapeout, debugging, and performance/validation activities.
Requirements
Core technical skills and relevant experience required; must-haves listed first.
- Must-have: 2+ years of academic or professional experience designing embedded memories for SoC applications; demonstrated experience with custom SRAM design.
- Experience with tight pitch, matched memory layout and understanding of physical implementation impacts on circuit performance.
- Knowledge of CPU cache behavior (L1/L2), compiler SRAM/register-file architectures, and advanced custom circuit techniques.
- Familiarity with high-performance and low-power design features and techniques.
- Understanding of semiconductor device fundamentals and variation-aware design in nanometer CMOS and FinFET technologies.
- Experience with schematic capture, circuit simulation, margin verification, and collaborating with CAD/verification teams.
- Nice-to-have: prior SoC tapeout experience, experience generating memory models for system-level verification, or prior work on CPU/GPU/modem memory subsystems.
Education Requirements
