Job Title

Memory Circuit Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and develop advanced memory circuits (SRAM, caches, multi-ported register files, ROMs, custom memories) and associated digital circuitry for CPU and SoC products. Partner with architecture, process technology, physical design, and product engineering teams to optimize power, performance, area (PPA), and scalability on advanced CMOS process technologies.

Scope and complexity will align with the candidate's experience; opportunity to influence memory architecture and circuit innovation.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical experience aligns with roughly 3–5+ years of relevant industry experience depending on degree and background (see Education Requirements for degree/experience combinations).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Design, characterize, and simulate advanced memory circuits and peripheral circuitry.
  • Contribute to cache design, critical-path analysis, and custom memory circuit development.
  • Perform memory path-finding and evaluate trade-offs to optimize power, performance, and area.
  • Develop and analyze memory bit cells, peripheral circuits, arrays, and associated automation.
  • Evaluate circuit behavior across process, voltage, temperature, and design variations.
  • Collaborate with architecture, design, process technology, physical design, and product engineering teams to deliver memory IP.
  • Contribute to design methodologies, automation, technical readiness, and project execution.
  • Identify technical challenges, investigate alternatives, and develop scalable solutions for future CPU and SoC products.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Practical experience in CMOS circuit and memory design with demonstrated understanding of PPA trade-offs.
  • Experience with VLSI circuits and established design methodologies.
  • Experience in circuit characterization and simulation, including variation and corner analysis.
  • Knowledge of memory array design, bit-cell and peripheral circuitry, and memory IP integration.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams and communicate technical findings clearly.

Preferred (nice-to-have):

  • Low-power implementation techniques and experience optimizing for power.
  • Familiarity with circuit/layout trade-offs and physical design constraints.
  • Experience with industry-standard digital circuit design tools, dynamic simulations, variation analysis, and signal integrity analysis.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or a STEM-related field plus 5+ years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus 3+ years; or PhD plus 1+ years of relevant educational or work experience. Fields listed include Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical/STEM disciplines. Educational requirements may be satisfied through a combination of industry experience, internships, coursework, or research (equivalent practical experience is acceptable).
