Mechanical Engineer
Xscape PhotonicsJob Title
Mechanical Engineer
Role Summary
Design, develop, and test mechanical components and assemblies for silicon photonics products. Work across engineering, manufacturing, and test teams to deliver robust, manufacturable mechanical designs and prototypes.
Experience Level
Entry-level; typically requires 1+ years of professional mechanical engineering or product design experience.
Responsibilities
Deliver mechanical designs from concept through validation and support transfer to manufacturing.
- Create CAD models and detailed drawings for components and assemblies (SolidWorks preferred).
- Perform FEA and other simulation studies to validate structural, thermal, and mechanical performance.
- Design for manufacturability (DFM), tolerance stack-ups, and GD&T application.
- Build, test, and troubleshoot prototypes and mechanical assemblies in the lab.
- Develop assembly procedures, test plans, and documentation for production handoff.
- Collaborate with electrical, optical, and test engineers to integrate mechanical and optomechanical systems.
- Support supplier selection, manufacturing process development, and engineering change processes.
Requirements
Core technical skills and hands-on experience required; education details are listed separately below.
- Minimum 1 year of professional experience in mechanical engineering, product design, or related roles.
- Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks preferred; CATIA or equivalent acceptable).
- Experience with FEA and engineering simulation tools.
- Strong understanding of materials, mechanical principles, and manufacturing processes.
- Practical experience with GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Comfortable with hands-on lab work: prototyping, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Effective collaborator with cross-functional engineering teams and good problem-solving skills.
- Nice-to-have: experience with PLM/ECO processes, optomechanical assembly and fiber handling, scripting (Python/MATLAB), and thermal management hardware.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required. Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is listed as a preferred qualification.
