Mechanical Design Engineer, Power Module
Monolithic Power SystemsJob Title
Mechanical Design Engineer, Power Module
Role Summary
Design and validate mechanical structures for high-power-density power modules. The role focuses on 3D/2D CAD design, tolerance analysis, mechanical simulation, and manufacturability for power module products.
Work closely with thermal design engineers and manufacturing teams to optimize thermal and mechanical reliability and to define production-ready processes and standards.
Experience Level
Mid-level (Level - Mid-Career). Typically requires around 3+ years of relevant experience working on power modules or similar products.
Responsibilities
Lead mechanical design and analysis activities for power module products and support process development for manufacturing.
- Create and maintain 3D and 2D CAD models and drawings, including tolerance design and analysis.
- Perform mechanical simulations and collaborate with thermal engineers to optimize cooling and reliability.
- Recommend manufacturing processes and materials for mechanical components.
- Provide process guidance and design for manufacturability input to production teams.
- Establish and maintain mechanical design standards, guidelines, and documentation.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues and provide engineering solutions for product improvements.
Requirements
Key skills and experience required or preferred for the role.
- Must-have: Mechanical design capability with experience in 3D/2D CAD and tolerance design.
- Must-have: Proficiency with mechanical simulation and relevant modelling software.
- Must-have: Experience with manufacturing processes and material selection for mechanical components.
- Must-have: Ability to define design-for-manufacturing guidance and collaborate with production teams.
- Preferred: Thermal design experience and experience optimizing thermal management for high-power modules.
- Preferred: Prior experience specifically with power module products or power electronics packaging.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, writing and presentation skills; agile, creative thinking.
Education Requirements
Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred; or equivalent qualification plus at least 3 years of relevant work experience in power modules.
