Job Title

MBIST Diagnostics Engineer (up to Sr. Staff)

Role Summary

Lead development of MBIST diagnostics, memory repair, failure analysis, and advanced memory-diagnostics flows for next-generation SoCs and stacked/3D memory architectures. Work across design, silicon validation, product engineering, yield, and packaging teams to improve diagnosability, repair effectiveness, and manufacturing outcomes.

Experience Level

Senior-level (up to Sr. Staff). Preferred experience: 8+ years in MBIST, memory diagnostics, memory repair, silicon validation, or yield engineering. See Education Requirements for minimum experience options tied to degree level.

Responsibilities

Drive end-to-end memory diagnostics and repair methodology, support silicon bring-up and yield learning, and deliver automation and analytics to scale diagnostics across products.

  • Lead SRAM MBIST diagnosis, memory failure analysis, and memory repair activities for complex SoC designs.
  • Analyze ATE datalogs, MBIST fail signatures, repair data, and silicon debug results to isolate failures and determine root causes.
  • Develop and improve diagnostic algorithms, failure-signature formats, redundancy analysis (BIRA/BISR), ECC/self-repair validation, and post-repair verification flows.
  • Architect MBIST controllers, diagnostic modes, fail-capture mechanisms, error logging, and repair access flows for embedded memories, stacked memory, HBM, DRAM, and chiplet-based architectures.
  • Support HTOL/customer-return investigations, production excursions, silicon bring-up, characterization, and yield ramp activities.
  • Build automation frameworks and data pipelines for fail-log parsing, signature analysis, repair analysis, failure classification, and diagnostic reporting.
  • Use data analytics and machine-learning approaches where applicable to improve diagnostic accuracy and yield optimization.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and establish reusable diagnostics methodologies across products and technology generations.

Requirements

Concise list of required skills and preferred capabilities.

  • Must-have: Practical experience in MBIST architecture, memory diagnostics, memory repair, post-silicon debug, or yield engineering with demonstrated failure analysis and root-cause isolation skills.
  • Must-have: Experience analyzing test logs and MBIST fail signatures and translating results into repair and debug actions.
  • Must-have: Scripting/automation skills (Python, Perl, TCL, or equivalent) to build diagnostic tools and workflows.
  • Must-have: Ability to design diagnostic data pipelines and reporting for yield learning and repair effectiveness tracking.
  • Nice-to-have: Hands-on experience with MBIST/memory diagnostic EDA tools (for example, Tessent MemoryBIST, Synopsys SMS, or equivalents).
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with 2.5D/3DIC, HBM, stacked DRAM, or chiplet-based memory architectures and associated diagnostics.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience applying data analytics or machine-learning techniques to diagnostics and yield optimization.
  • Nice-to-have: Proven leadership in technical initiatives, mentoring, and establishing cross-product best practices.

Education Requirements

Degree options and equivalent-experience rules appear in the posting. Acceptable credentials include a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Science, Engineering, or a related field. Experience thresholds specified: Bachelor's +6 years of ASIC design/verification/validation/integration or related experience; Master's +5 years; PhD +4 years. Equivalent practical experience may be considered. Preferred candidates may have 8+ years of direct MBIST/memory-diagnostics or yield-engineering experience.
