AppleJob Title
Materials Engineer
Role Summary
Drive material selection, characterization, and optimization of adhesives and interconnect materials for semiconductor packaging, electrical and optical modules, and module assembly.
Work within a hardware materials team to source new materials, perform lab characterization, correlate material behavior with module performance, and report findings to engineering stakeholders.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Requires more than 3 years of hands-on experience in material characterization and testing.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include technical evaluation, testing, and communication of material performance for packaging and module assembly.
- Drive selection and evaluation of tape and liquid adhesives for mechanical and electrical interconnects.
- Source new materials and vendors; plan and execute material qualification activities.
- Perform and interpret lab characterization (DMA/TMA/DSC/Rheometer/TGA, universal tester) and translate results to module performance.
- Develop test protocols, document results, and report issues and recommendations to design and manufacturing teams.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate materials into modules and resolve manufacturing or reliability issues.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- More than 3 years' hands-on experience with DMA, TMA, DSC, rheometer, TGA and universal tester characterization.
- Experience selecting and qualifying materials for semiconductor packaging and module assembly.
- Experience sourcing materials and working with suppliers; familiarity with electrical/optical module requirements.
- Strong experimental, analytical, and technical reporting skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience or knowledge of adhesive material formulation.
- Experience developing material-level characterization methodologies and correlating them with module performance.
