Job Title

Master's Thesis Projects - ML Software (Lund, 2027)

Role Summary

Arm Lund offers supervised master's thesis projects in machine learning software focused on Neural Processing Units (NPUs) and edge ML inference. Students will execute a defined research or engineering project, implement experiments or prototypes, and produce a Master's thesis and final presentation.

Experience Level

Entry-level.

Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities for a Master thesis student in this program include:

  • Execute a supervised research or engineering thesis on one of the listed ML software topics (e.g., speculative decoding for MoE, Vulkan ML emulation, operator scheduling).
  • Design and run experiments on ML inference, profiling and performance measurement for NPUs or emulation layers.
  • Implement prototypes or software in C/C++ and/or Python and use ML frameworks such as PyTorch.
  • Analyze results, iterate on methods, and document findings in a formal thesis report.
  • Present work to the team and participate in regular feedback sessions and collaborative activities.

Requirements

Key requirements and expectations:

  • Strong understanding of machine learning concepts, neural networks and mathematics.
  • Proficient programming skills in C, C++ and/or Python; experience with ML frameworks (for example, PyTorch).
  • Professional proficiency in English for written and verbal communication.
  • Right to work in Sweden for the full duration of the thesis project; Arm does not provide visa sponsorship for this role.
  • Ability to collaborate with engineers and researchers; good attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Familiarity with transformer/LLM architectures, Vulkan ML, NPU or micro-architecture concepts.
  • Curiosity for ML systems, performance engineering and software-hardware interaction.

Education Requirements

Must be currently enrolled in a Master's degree program and affiliated with a Swedish university/college (directly or via an exchange program). Applicants should be prepared to submit a University Transcript (grade sheet) and an English CV. No visa sponsorship is available; applicants must already have the right to work in Sweden for the duration of the project.
