Manufacturing Test Engineer, Staff

Role Summary

The Staff Manufacturing Test Engineer will lead development, implementation, and deployment of manufacturing functional tests for PCIe accelerator cards and next-generation server tray products. This role provides technical leadership within the Operations Test Engineering team and coordinates with Test Automation Engineers, Manufacturing Quality Engineering (MQE), and JDM manufacturing partners.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Requires 10+ years of experience developing and deploying manufacturing test software in high-volume hardware manufacturing environments.

Responsibilities

Accountable for manufacturing test strategy, test development, scalability, and floor support across card- and system-level products.

  • Develop and implement board-level functional test modules for PCIe accelerator cards: power-on sequencing, firmware load, PCIe link training/enumeration, functional validation, and stress/burn-in.
  • Architect manufacturing test strategy for server platforms, including system-level integration tests, BMC/IPMC firmware validation, and multi-card orchestration.
  • Create test plans, regression requirements, and coverage assessments aligned to Manufacturing Test Requirements across the product lifecycle.
  • Design scalable, maintainable test implementations focused on automation, standardization, and continuous improvement to reduce manual effort and test time.
  • Analyze test data to improve test efficiency, reduce cycle time, and identify yield-limiting patterns.
  • Partner with MQE and Product Quality Engineering on root cause analysis, corrective actions, and new product introductions.
  • Deploy test capabilities at manufacturing sites, train partner teams, triage floor failures, and provide on-call support to keep production running.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required for immediate contribution.

  • 10+ years developing and deploying manufacturing test software in high-volume hardware manufacturing environments.
  • Direct experience with PCIe card, NIC, GPU, or server/storage board-level manufacturing tests.
  • Strong knowledge of PCIe protocol fundamentals, board-level power sequencing, and functional test methodologies.
  • Proficiency in Python for test automation and data analysis.
  • Experience with Linux/Unix environments, shell scripting, and command-line debug tools.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing test infrastructure, including test fixtures, JTAG/boundary-scan, and in-system test methods.
  • Proven ability to lead technical initiatives, make architectural decisions, and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.

Nice-to-have / Preferred:

  • Experience with very high-volume manufacturing operations (100K+ units/year).
  • Familiarity with OCP or hyperscaler hardware design standards.
  • Experience with BMC/IPMC firmware validation and Redfish management interfaces.
  • Proficiency with test data infrastructure, statistical analysis tools (JMP, Minitab, or Python equivalents), and SPC/SQC methodologies.
  • Practical experience with quality tools and methodologies (8D, FMEA, DOE, fishbone analysis).
  • Track record of scaling test strategies from card-level to system-level products.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
