Job Title

Manufacturing Test Development Engineer III

Role Summary

Design, implement, validate, and sustain electrical and mechanical test solutions for Axcelis manufacturing operations. Collaborate with Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Process teams to support new product introduction, improve test coverage, and increase throughput and reliability.

Onsite role in Beverly, MA. Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm.

Experience Level

Mid-level — typically 2–4 years of engineering experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include development, deployment, and sustaining support of manufacturing test systems.

  • Own test systems from concept through production use, including development, deployment, and sustaining support.
  • Design and validate electrical and mechanical manufacturing test solutions (automated test equipment, fixtures, tooling).
  • Fabricate and implement custom test hardware, including PCBs, NI DAQ systems, and mechanical fixtures.
  • Perform hands-on debugging of test equipment, DAQs, sensors, PCBAs, motion controllers, and robotics.
  • Analyze test data to identify failure modes, root causes, and process variation; propose corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define test requirements and ensure alignment with product needs.
  • Create and maintain test documentation, procedures, calibration instructions, and engineering reports.
  • Support new product introduction by developing test strategies and equipment for emerging technologies.
  • Participate in continuous improvement to increase throughput, repeatability, and equipment reliability.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical experience for immediate contribution; additional skills are beneficial.

  • Must-have: 2–4 years of engineering experience; hands-on troubleshooting across electrical, electronic, mechanical, and system-level issues.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools (SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD) and ability to interpret electrical schematics and PCB design tools (Altium, KiCad, or similar).
  • Experience using measurement and lab equipment: DMMs, oscilloscopes, DAQs, signal analyzers.
  • Familiarity with National Instruments products (LabVIEW, TestStand, cDAQ, PXIe).
  • Ability to fabricate test hardware using hand tools, 3D printing, and basic machining; experience with PCB assembly and custom fixtures.
  • Competency in data analysis tools and techniques (Excel, Minitab, MATLAB, or similar) and basic project planning tools (Gantt, Microsoft Project, Planner).
  • Nice-to-have: Exposure to vacuum systems, RF, motion control, and/or high-voltage systems; prior manufacturing environment experience.
  • Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and clear verbal and written communication skills; attention to detail.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
