Job Title

Manufacturing Operation Manager

Role Summary

Lead a team of engineers and technicians responsible for sustaining, troubleshooting, qualifying, and optimizing assembly and test manufacturing equipment in a semiconductor production environment.

Primary mission: maximize tool availability, process stability, product quality, and production throughput while enforcing safety and continuous improvement.

Experience Level

Level: Senior. Years of experience guidance: minimum 3+ years hands-on equipment engineering experience and minimum 2+ years people management or supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

Manage equipment engineering and team operations to support high-volume production.

  • Own, sustain, troubleshoot, repair, qualify, and optimize assembly and test equipment to meet uptime, yield, quality, and productivity targets.
  • Drive equipment reliability and process improvements through root-cause analysis, SPC, FMEA, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead quality containment and excursion management: defect verification, early quality signal response, lot/hardware containment, disposition support, and corrective actions.
  • Manage, coach, and certify technicians; establish and implement training and certification plans to support production ramps.
  • Plan and supervise shift schedules, staffing coverage, workstation assignments, rotations, and PTO management.
  • Act as first responder for operational, safety, and security issues in assigned toolsets or areas.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams on installation, qualification, technology transfer, and factory health challenges.
  • Develop and execute tactical plans to streamline workflows and improve coordination between groups.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • 3+ years hands-on equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and sustainment in a manufacturing environment.
  • 2+ years of people management, team leadership, or supervisory experience (coaching, performance management, workforce planning, employee development).
  • Experience supporting manufacturing quality systems, including defect verification, containment, excursion management, and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Hands-on experience with equipment monitoring, process control, equipment qualification, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and root-cause methodologies (8D, 5-Why); familiarity with FMEA, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and operational safety standards.
  • Proven ability to develop technical training plans and certification programs and to resolve equipment and process issues in high-volume production.

Nice-to-have:

  • Semiconductor assembly and/or test manufacturing experience, including support for production ramps and technology transfer.
  • Experience leading equipment performance improvement, reliability enhancement, and productivity initiatives.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Sciences, or a related technical discipline with a minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience; OR a Master's degree in a related field with 2+ years of relevant experience. Preferred items mentioned: Master's (including MBA) and Lean Six Sigma certification. Equivalent practical experience is acknowledged where stated.
