Job Title

Manager, PCIe Firmware - Physical Layer

Role Summary

Lead a newly formed Physical Layer team inside the PCIe Firmware organization responsible for PCIe link bring-up, equalization, recovery, and physical-layer customer escalations across NVIDIA's networking products.

The role is a hands-on first-line manager/player-coach: guide debug work directly, grow engineers and tech leads, coordinate across chip design, architecture, software, validation, and customer engineering, and drive recurring improvements.

Experience Level

Senior β€” 8+ years of engineering experience with 3+ years in engineering management or equivalent technical lead experience on a path into management.

Responsibilities

The manager will run delivery for physical-layer firmware, provide technical leadership, and engage directly in complex debug and customer escalations.

  • Lead and mentor a focused physical-layer firmware team as a player-coach.
  • Own delivery for PCIe link bring-up, equalization, recovery, and cross-generation behavior across multiple products.
  • Drive triage to root cause and convert point fixes into reusable improvements.
  • Work cross-functionally with Chip Design, Architecture, Software, Validation, and Customer Engineering.
  • Serve as the technical reference for physical-layer scope and clarify when an issue lies outside that scope.
  • Apply AI tools to triage, debug, and capture knowledge within the team.

Requirements

Must-have qualifications and skills for the role.

  • 8+ years of engineering experience overall.
  • 3+ years of engineering management or equivalent technical lead experience.
  • Strong PCIe foundation: link training, equalization, recovery flows, and cross-generation behavior.
  • Proven track record of driving difficult link issues to root cause using state traces and eye diagrams alongside silicon and signal integrity engineers.
  • Ability to grow engineers, run a delivery cadence, and prioritize under constraints.
  • Hands-on operator mentality: step in to unblock execution.
  • Clear communicator with engineers, partners, and customers.

Nice-to-have:

  • Hands-on PCIe link bring-up on real silicon, signal integrity work, lane margining, or cross-generation interop.
  • Direct experience with high-speed SerDes behavior, thermal-sensitive link issues, or customer-facing escalations.
  • Practical use of AI/ML tools in engineering for pattern matching, trace summarization, or knowledge bases.
  • Familiarity with networking products, Linux, and Python scripting.
  • Experience operating across HW/FW/SW boundaries.

Education Requirements

Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
