Manager of Process Engineering
PsiQuantumJob Title
Manager of Process Engineering
Role Summary
Manage a team of opto-mechanical process engineers responsible for subassembly development, assembly build, and quality for R&D and volume system integration and deployment of PsiQuantum quantum computer subsystems. Collaborate with packaging, operations, supply chain, and external suppliers to drive reliable assembly processes for cryogenic and room-temperature systems.
This work supports PsiQuantum's mission to build scalable, fault-tolerant quantum computers.
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires 10+ years of relevant engineering experience leading process or assembly teams.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include process development, equipment delivery, documentation, and team management.
- Lead design and development of assembly process flows and build subassemblies for QC subsystems (electronics and silicon photonics on PCBAs) for cryogenic and room-temperature vacuum systems.
- Work with cross-functional teams and suppliers to finalize designs and processes using DFM, DFQ, and FMEA to meet subsystem requirements.
- Specify, procure, and verify equipment, tooling, and fixtures; complete process development, capability analysis, and formal buyoff.
- Release design documents, work instructions, and control plans under change control; train and audit operations for volume assembly builds.
- Manage in-house processes and contractor manufacturing; provide ongoing technical process support.
- Manage budget, CAPEX, hiring, and procurement for assembly tools and machines.
- Project-manage schedules, milestones, and deliverables for internal teams and external suppliers.
Requirements
Must-have technical and leadership qualifications; preferred items noted.
- 10+ years applying engineering principles to solve complex opto-mechanical assembly process problems.
- Experience with optical and photonics assembly and inspection equipment and material systems (die attach, wire bonding, optical coupling, flip chip, underfill, etc.).
- Familiarity with opto-mechanical packaging and assembly equipment, piece-part supplier base, and quality systems.
- Experience in design, analysis, and assembly of subsystems; build NPI pilot lines and transfer processes to operations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to provide technical leadership in ambiguous situations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills across levels of the organization.
- Proven management skills, ability to meet short deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Nice-to-have: prior experience in startups or large companies bringing products to volume; supplier and contract manufacturing management experience.
Education Requirements
Master's degree or higher in Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a closely related engineering/technical discipline.
