Manager - Firmware Software Systems Design
Role Summary
Lead the firmware engineering team responsible for embedded market segments (Networking, Storage, Automotive, Thin client). Accountable for planning, delivering, and supporting firmware across power management, security, and platform memory for AMD APU/CPU platforms.
Experience Level
Senior. Requires 16+ years of firmware development experience and 5+ years managing development teams of 7+ engineers.
Responsibilities
Manage team delivery and provide technical leadership across firmware development and validation.
- Lead, mentor, and prioritize work for firmware engineers.
- Plan, track, and deliver firmware milestones and releases.
- Design, develop, and debug firmware for systems and platforms using AMD APU/CPU.
- Deliver firmware features for power management, security, and platform memory.
- Support customer escalations and debug firmware and system-related issues.
- Oversee APU/CPU and platform validation and coordinate debug of system and silicon issues.
- Collaborate with internal organizations, vendors, partners, and the Platform Firmware Organization (PFO).
- Produce low-level design documents, user guides, and custom firmware designs for tier-1 customers.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for day-one contribution.
- Strong C programming skills and extensive firmware development experience (UEFI BIOS, ACPI, platform BIOS).
- Experience with BIOS, power management, PCIe, and SoC power state management.
- Security firmware experience and knowledge of silicon security subsystems, root of trust, TPM/fTPM.
- Experience with memory recognition/configuration; knowledge of DDR4/DDR5 and DIMM types (UDIMM, SODIMM, RDIMM, LRDIMM, LPDDR).
- Familiarity with UMC features (ECC, SME, SEV, RAS) and hardware debug tools.
- Experience in firmware release processes and cross-team collaboration.
Nice-to-have:
- AGESA knowledge, boot loader or Linux experience, exposure to JIRA.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering or a related engineering discipline is required. A Master's degree from a reputed university is a plus.
