Job Title
Manager, Emulation Field Support Engineer
Role Summary
Lead a global team responsible for deploying, maintaining, and optimizing FPGA-based emulation hardware across on-premises, cloud, and customer sites. Ensure high availability, rapid incident resolution, and scalable infrastructure for emulation services.
The role emphasizes operational excellence, automation, cross-functional coordination, and continuous reliability improvements in a 24/7 support environment.
Experience Level
Senior — requires demonstrated leadership in technical operations. Typical profile: 5+ years managing technical teams in 24/7 environments and a strong record of operational improvements.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include managing the support organization, ensuring infrastructure reliability, and coordinating across engineering, IT, and customer teams.
- Manage and develop a global team of 19+ emulation hardware support engineers; define on-call rotations, training, and career plans.
- Own end-to-end lifecycle management of emulation hardware: capacity planning, deployment, firmware updates, and decommissioning.
- Lead incident response for Severity 1 outages, coordinate cross-functional resolution, and conduct post-mortems to reduce recurrence and MTTR.
- Develop and maintain SOPs, diagnostics, failure analysis processes, and a knowledge base for faster troubleshooting.
- Implement and maintain monitoring tools for system health (latency, thermal, FPGA utilization) and automate repetitive tasks (log analysis, firmware rollouts, inventory).
- Coordinate with R&D, IT, facilities, sales, and vendors on design feedback, deployments, data center optimization, and SLA negotiations.
- Run quarterly capacity planning and reliability reviews to align infrastructure with projected demand.
Requirements
Must-have technical and leadership capabilities for immediate impact.
- Proven experience with FPGA-based emulation systems (e.g., Veloce or equivalent).
- Basic to mid-level Linux administration and strong network diagnostics skills.
- Minimum 5+ years managing technical teams in 24/7 operational environments with measurable improvements in MTTR and escalation rates.
- Hands-on experience in data center operations, hardware lifecycle management, capacity planning, and preventive maintenance processes.
- Experience designing and operating monitoring, automation, and remote troubleshooting systems.
- Familiarity with global compliance and security standards such as ISO 27001 and SOC 2.
- Strong cross-functional communication skills and vendor management experience.
- Must meet U.S. export control requirements (ITAR/EAR): be a U.S. Person or able to obtain required export authorization.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field preferred. The posting allows equivalent practical experience: "Equivalent experience: 10+ years in hardware operations roles."
