Job Title

Manager, ASIC Sustaining Engineer, Silicon Operations

Role Summary

Lead a sustaining engineering team responsible for yield improvement, root-cause analysis, and production support for ASIC devices across wafer, assembly, and test stages. Partner with process, equipment, design, and supplier teams to diagnose failures, implement corrective actions, and optimize manufacturing processes for production stability and yield.

Experience Level

Senior β€” leader-level role. Typical candidate has 7+ years of relevant engineering or technical leadership experience; program or product management experience is common.

Responsibilities

Accountable for maintaining and improving production yield, diagnosing failures, and enabling product ramp and sustained production.

  • Lead investigations into chip performance, yield, and quality issues; drive root-cause analysis (electrical and physical FA).
  • Analyze test-bin data and logs to identify failure modes and yield limiters.
  • Design and execute experiments (DOE) to optimize processes and reduce contamination.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and internal teams to define and implement corrective actions; verify effectiveness.
  • Support early-stage product design for manufacturability: design rule review, layout/DFM review, and yield characterization.
  • Install, qualify, and maintain in-line defect inspection and review equipment; maintain process specifications and best-known methods.
  • Manage cross-functional programs, schedules, and release coordination for product tape-out and silicon success.

Requirements

Must-have technical and managerial qualifications for the role.

  • Proven experience leading technical teams to resolve ASIC/semiconductor yield and quality issues.
  • Strong data-analysis skills with statistical methods to identify trends in electrical test and in-line inspection data.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical and physical failure analysis and designing DOEs for process optimization.
  • Experience working with process, equipment, design teams, and external suppliers on corrective actions and process control.
  • Experience managing cross-functional programs and coordinating release schedules.
  • Must meet export-control eligibility: U.S. citizen, U.S. national, U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder), refugee, or asylee.
  • Nice-to-have: deep expertise in ASIC design, silicon photonics, RFIC, analog/mixed-signal circuits, fabless supply chains, and test engineering.

Education Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering. Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Semiconductor Physics, or a related field is preferred.
