Job Title

Machine Vision & AOI Sr/Engineer

Role Summary

Design, develop, and deploy camera-based automated optical inspection (AOI) and machine vision systems for advanced packaging and manufacturing. The role spans proof-of-concept, hardware selection, algorithm development, validation, and production sustainment.

Work cross-functionally with process, equipment, automation, and quality teams to translate inspection needs into robust, production-ready solutions that improve defect detection, process control, and yield.

Experience Level

Senior level. Specific years-of-experience guidance not specified in the posting.

Responsibilities

Main responsibilities include hands-on development, integration, and validation of vision inspection systems:

  • Design and implement AOI solutions for defect detection, classification, measurement, and traceability.
  • Select and integrate machine vision hardware: cameras, lenses, lighting, filters, and frame grabbers.
  • Develop image acquisition strategies and optimize optical setups (FOV, depth of field, lighting geometry).
  • Build and validate vision algorithms for inspection, measurement, alignment, OCR/OCV, pattern matching, and defect detection using OpenCV or similar tools.
  • Perform camera calibration, system characterization, GR&R, and inspection performance validation for production readiness.
  • Troubleshoot systems in lab and factory environments; perform root-cause analysis for image quality and inspection escapes.
  • Collaborate with equipment vendors, automation, process, metrology, and quality teams to integrate and improve inspection systems.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and environment expectations; preferred skills listed separately.

  • Hands-on experience developing and deploying industrial machine vision or AOI systems, including integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in Python and experience with image processing/computer vision libraries (e.g., OpenCV); solid software engineering practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; effective cross-cultural communication.
  • Willingness to work in lab and factory settings and follow safety and change-control procedures.

Nice-to-have / preferred:

  • Deep experience with camera systems, lens calculation, lighting design, optical filtering, and calibration.
  • Experience with AOI optimization (defect libraries, recipe tuning, false-call reduction) and inspection validation methods.
  • Understanding of optics and imaging fundamentals, measurement system analysis, SPC, and data-driven detection improvement.
  • Familiarity with equipment integration, PLC/automation interfaces, trigger/control synchronization, and real-time acquisition.
  • Experience in semiconductor or electronics manufacturing inspection and new tool bring-up.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related discipline; or equivalent practical experience.
