Linux SW Engineering Intern
Role Summary
Join the i.MX software team to integrate and maintain Linux Board Support Packages (BSP) and kernel drivers for i.MX microprocessors. The role involves working with an international engineering team to deliver high-quality, secure embedded software releases.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship. Suitable for current students or recent graduates; typical experience 0–2 years.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include integrating devices, maintaining product software, and contributing kernel work upstream.
- Integrate new i.MX devices into the Linux BSP and produce quality release deliverables.
- Maintain and update existing i.MX product software per the Linux software evolution strategy.
- Develop, design, and maintain Linux kernel drivers for i.MX platforms.
- Contribute relevant fixes and features upstream to the Linux kernel community.
Requirements
Technical must-haves and desirable skills for the role.
- Experience with software development for embedded systems (C/C++ and build systems).
- Familiarity with embedded firmware development practices and debugging on embedded targets.
- Understanding of Linux kernel development and driver architecture.
- Ability to produce reliable work for tasks that may be in scope of security certifications.
- Nice-to-have: CPU/computer architecture knowledge, deep Linux internals (memory, scheduling, device drivers).
- Nice-to-have: participation in open-source communities or prior contributions to the Linux kernel.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a similar discipline is specified. (This is an internship-level role; current students or recent graduates are appropriate candidates.)
