Role Summary

First-line manager responsible for leading a team of Linux kernel engineers working on core CPU and SoC enablement for AMD EPYC processors. The team focuses on Memory Management, Scheduler, Power Management, quality assurance, pre-silicon validation, performance optimization, and internal/customer debug.

This role requires coordinating across distributed engineering teams (India, U.S., Europe), setting technical direction, removing obstacles, and growing engineers' skills to deliver upstream-ready, production-quality kernel features.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage a geographically distributed Linux kernel engineering team and own technical delivery for key kernel subsystems and QA practices.

• Hire, coach, and manage performance, career growth, and workload prioritization for the team.
• Define feature roadmaps and drive development across Memory Management, Scheduler, and Power Management subsystems.
• Own Quality Assurance strategy: test development, CI, performance and regression testing to ensure upstream-ready contributions.
• Lead pre-silicon validation, platform performance optimization, and resolution of internal and customer debug issues.
• Guide code review, unit and integration test development, and documentation of design and changes.
• Collaborate with peer managers, subject matter experts, and remote engineering staff across multiple regions.
• Represent the team's priorities and technical work across the broader organization.

Requirements

Technical leadership and hands-on systems knowledge required; role emphasizes management with strong technical credibility in Linux kernel development and QA for systems software.

• Proven technical and people leadership experience, including managing distributed teams.
• Strong experience with Linux kernel development and upstream workflows, ideally including one or more of Memory Management, Scheduler, or Power Management subsystems.
• Experience defining and driving QA for kernel or systems software: test development, CI, and performance/regression testing.
• Experience with pre-silicon validation, platform performance optimization, and system debug.
• Solid background in C for OS/kernel or systems development; hands-on development is helpful but not primary.
• Familiarity with open source development processes (patch submission, mailing lists) and collaborating with external communities.
• Deep understanding of operating-systems concepts, data structures, and x86-64 architecture.
• Proficiency with the GNU toolchain and git; experience with low-level debug tools, emulators, and simulators.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and ability to work effectively in a matrixed organization.
• Ability to collaborate with remote teams across India, the U.S., and Europe.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
