Linux Kernel & Virtualization Manager

Role Summary

Lead a team of Linux kernel engineers responsible for enabling core CPU and SoC features for AMD EPYC processors, with focus areas including virtualization, memory management, live migration, pre-silicon validation, performance optimization, and quality assurance for upstream-ready contributions.

This is a collaborative, distributed manager role working with engineering teams across India, the U.S., and Europe. The position is remote but requires the candidate to be based in Germany.

Senior β€” manager-level role. Requires demonstrated technical leadership of engineering teams and strong kernel/virtualization expertise.

Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate the technical and operational work of a Linux kernel engineering team delivering production-quality platform features.

  • Manage hiring, coaching, performance reviews, planning, and task prioritization for the team.
  • Drive design and implementation across Memory Management, Virtualization (including Confidential Computing), and Live Migration subsystems.
  • Oversee QA strategy to ensure robust, well-tested, and upstream-ready code (unit/integration tests, CI, regression/performance testing).
  • Lead pre-silicon validation, platform performance optimization, and internal/customer debugging efforts.
  • Guide code reviews, documentation, and upstream contribution workflows.
  • Represent team priorities and technical direction across peer teams and stakeholders.

Requirements

Core technical and leadership qualifications required to perform the role.

  • Proven technical leadership managing kernel or systems-engineering teams, including distributed teams.
  • Deep knowledge of the Linux kernel and upstream development workflows.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as KVM/QEMU and x86-64 virtualization extensions.
  • Experience with pre-silicon validation, platform performance optimization, and debugging at system level.
  • Experience defining and implementing QA practices for systems software (test development, CI, performance and regression testing).
  • Strong background in C for kernel/systems development; hands-on development experience is beneficial.
  • Proficiency with Git and the GNU toolchain; experience with low-level debugging tools, emulators, and simulators.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and ability to operate in a matrix-managed, fast-paced environment.
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with Confidential Computing technologies, Rust experience, and prior open-source contribution experience.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
