Job Title

Lead Product Engineer

Role Summary

Technical lead responsible for introducing and sustaining a specific semiconductor product or product family through the transition from design completion to high-volume manufacturing. Acts as the primary technical interface across design, process, test, reliability, quality, and manufacturing teams to ensure robust product performance, high yield, and cost efficiency.

Primary duties include managing New Product Introduction (NPI), providing production support and problem resolution, driving yield and cost improvements, and coordinating with internal teams and external manufacturing partners.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in Product Engineering, Test Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering within the semiconductor industry.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities for successful product introduction, production support, and continuous improvement.

  • Lead NPI activities and manage transfer from design to in-house or outsourced manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with Design, Process, Test, and Reliability teams to ensure manufacturability, testability, and reliability.
  • Define and validate product characterization plans; perform initial yield analysis and drive early yield improvements.
  • Oversee product qualification and review qualification data against quality standards.
  • Provide engineering support for high-volume production; lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions for failures and yield excursions.
  • Manage disposition of non-conforming material to minimize production impact.
  • Develop and implement process improvements and engineering changes to reduce cost and increase yields.
  • Monitor product performance metrics and lead continuous improvement projects throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Coordinate with external partners (foundries, assembly houses, test houses) and communicate technical status to stakeholders, including senior management.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and domain experience for the role.

  • Minimum 5 years experience in Product, Test, or Manufacturing Engineering in the semiconductor industry.
  • Proven experience managing NPI from design transfer to high-volume production.
  • Hands-on experience with Automated Test Equipment (ATE) and test program development/debug.
  • Experience performing root-cause analysis, failure analysis, and managing yield detractors and customer returns.
  • Proficiency with statistical analysis tools (e.g., JMP, Minitab) and methods such as SPC, DOE, FMEA, and MSA.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, product datasheets, and failure analysis reports.
  • Understanding of semiconductor manufacturing processes (wafer fabrication, assembly, test) and device physics.
  • Familiarity with quality and reliability standards (for example, AEC-Q100 for automotive products) where applicable.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
