Role Summary
Lead a firmware engineering team in AMD's Embedded segment to design, develop, and deliver firmware for platforms using AMD APU/CPU. Primary focus areas include power management, security, networking, and platform memory setup for embedded markets (Networking, Storage, Automotive, Thin clients).
The role combines hands-on firmware development, team leadership, cross-team coordination, and customer-facing design support in a fast-paced engineering environment based in Bengaluru, India.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 15+ years hands-on firmware development experience; emulation experience is mandatory.
Responsibilities
Accountable for planning, delivering, and supporting embedded firmware across the product lifecycle. Work closely with internal teams, partners, and customers to meet product and customer requirements.
- Lead and mentor a firmware team delivering power management, security, networking, and platform memory firmware.
- Plan, track, and deliver firmware milestones and releases.
- Design, implement, and debug firmware for internal and customer platforms using AMD APU/CPU.
- Participate in day-to-day firmware development (C language) and hands-on debugging in emulation, simulation, and post-silicon environments.
- Support APU/CPU and platform validation and assist debug engineers to isolate system and silicon issues.
- Collaborate with Platform Firmware Organization (PFO), embedded architects, and core firmware teams to meet embedded market requirements.
- Provide custom firmware designs and documentation for tier-1 customers and support customer escalations.
- Produce low-level design documents, user guides, and release artifacts for Power Management, Security, and Memory features.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, tools, and experience to perform the role.
- 15+ years firmware development experience with mandatory emulation experience.
- Strong C programming skills and hands-on firmware development experience.
- Experience with BIOS, UEFI BIOS, ACPI; AGESA knowledge is a plus.
- Deep understanding of power management (SoC CPU/device power states, hot-plug) and platform BIOS development.
- Security firmware experience and familiarity with silicon security subsystems, root of trust, TPM/fTPM, Widevine, trusted applications and handshake.
- Memory initialization and configuration experience; understanding of DDR4, DDR5, NVDIMM and DIMM types (UDIMM/SODIMM/RDIMM/LRDIMM/LPDDR).
- Knowledge of UMC features such as ECC, SME, SEV, and RAS.
- Familiarity with hardware debug tools and firmware release processes.
- Version control and code review experience (Git, Gerrit).
- Boot loader and Linux experience is beneficial; exposure to JIRA is a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for cross-team and customer interactions.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering (or equivalent) is required. A Master's degree is preferred.
