Lead Designer, IC Layout
Role Summary
The Lead IC Layout Designer creates and delivers top-level and chip-level layouts, managing layout deliverables and tapeout activities. Works cross-functionally with schematic designers, block layout resources, section leads, project managers and assembly engineering to meet schedule, design and quality targets.
Leads layout resources, performs final tapeout to the foundry, prepares bonding diagrams for target packages, mentors junior staff, and supports process and tooling improvements for the layout team.
Experience Level
Senior; at least 6 years of relevant working experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Create and finalize top-level and chip-level IC layouts.
- Coordinate with schematic designers, block layout teams, section leads, project managers and assembly engineering.
- Manage layout deliverables, schedules and quality targets for assigned projects.
- Execute tapeout procedures and submit final data to the foundry; generate bonding diagrams for selected packages.
- Perform design checks to ensure layout reliability and conformity to process requirements.
- Mentor new hires and interns; contribute to team initiatives and continuous improvement of layout processes.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and behaviors, plus preferred (nice-to-have) items.
- Extensive top/chip-level IC layout experience.
- Familiarity with tapeout procedures and foundry submission workflows.
- Strong understanding of semiconductor device physics, cross-section and construction, layout principles, IC reliability and failure mechanisms.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; demonstrated leadership and ability to collaborate with global cross-functional teams.
- Available to travel up to 10% of the time.

Nice-to-have: experience with Cadence Virtuoso XL and Calibre verification tools.

Nice-to-have: layout experience on Supervisors (voltage/current monitors), voltage references, LDOs, DC-DC converters (buck/boost).

Nice-to-have: experience at technology nodes such as 0.18 µm, 90 nm, 40 nm.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electronics or Electrical Engineering. The posting also specifies at least 6 years of relevant professional experience.
