Lead AVV Engineer
Texas InstrumentsJob Title
Lead AVV Engineer
Role Summary
Technical lead responsible for subsystem-level functional validation of automotive MCUs in the ASM Auto Group at Texas Instruments, focused on pre-silicon and post-silicon validation and silicon readiness decisions.
Work as a technical peer with Architecture, Design, RTL Verification, and Firmware teams to define validation methodology, lead bring-up, and produce functional safety evidence.
Experience Level
Senior - typically requires 5+ years of pre-silicon and post-silicon functional validation experience.
Responsibilities
The role owns validation strategy, execution, and sign-off for complex MCU subsystems and drives tooling, automation, and cross-team investigations.
- Own functional validation strategy and sign-off for complex subsystems (Ethernet MAC, functional safety, clock/reset/power, multicore interactions).
- Define requirements-to-test traceability, functional coverage closure criteria, and sign-off readiness.
- Architect reusable validation frameworks spanning emulation platforms and silicon test environments.
- Lead first-silicon functional bring-up and execute silicon functional tests.
- Lead root-cause analysis across firmware, RTL, emulation models, and silicon.
- Validate cross-peripheral interactions including DMA, interrupts, clock switching, and low-power transitions.
- Plan and run fault-injection campaigns and produce ISO 26262 functional safety validation evidence.
- Define pre-silicon to post-silicon correlation and test reuse strategies.
- Architect and maintain automation and CI/CD-integrated regression infrastructure and benchmarking plans (throughput, latency, timing margins).
- Mentor engineers and lead validation reviews; provide sign-off and customer-facing technical recommendations.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred skills for successful candidates.
Must-have:
- 5+ years of engineering experience in silicon design and/or functional validation (pre-silicon and post-silicon).
- Experience with digital/embedded design using emulation, FPGA platforms, or RTL simulation.
- Experience debugging at SoC level across firmware, RTL, and silicon.
- Strong skills in automation, test infrastructure, and CI/CD for validation regressions.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with ARM architecture and advanced embedded C/firmware architecture.
- MCU/SoC architecture knowledge (multicore, coherency, boot, power domains) and complex peripheral validation.
- Emulation platform experience (QuickTurn, Palladium, ZeBu) and test infrastructure design.
- Deep understanding of ISO 26262, AUTOSAR, and in-vehicle networks (CAN FD, LIN, Ethernet).
- Experience with SystemVerilog, advanced RTL debugging, DMA and bus arbitration validation.
- Track record of building/mentoring validation teams or technical publications; strong technical communication skills.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree required in Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (Degree Level: Bachelor’s Degree as listed).
