Layout/Mask Design Engineer
Micron TechnologyJob Title
Layout/Mask Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and implement physical layouts for advanced digital, analog, and mixed-signal circuits used in memory products. Translate schematics into manufacturable layouts that meet foundry rules, electrical performance targets, and schedule constraints while working with cross-functional engineering teams.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Years of experience: not specified.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include block- and chip-level layout, verification, and collaboration to ensure manufacturable, reliable designs.
- Translate schematics into high-quality, manufacturable transistor, resistor, capacitor, and interconnect layouts for digital, analog, and mixed-signal blocks.
- Perform block-level floor planning, IC top-level floorplans, and provide accurate die area estimates and area optimizations.
- Execute routing, design power buses, and develop robust PDN solutions to meet electrical and reliability targets.
- Ensure compliance with foundry process design rules and run layout-versus-schematic (LVS) and design rule checks (DRC).
- Work with analog/mixed-signal and digital designers to implement critical matching, symmetry, and layout-specific constraints.
- Collaborate with Design Engineering, Product Engineering, Process Integration, Probe, and Assembly to optimize for manufacturability, cost, quality, and schedule.
- Create and maintain layout documentation and participate in design and layout reviews.
- Support continuous improvement of layout methodologies, tools, and flows.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and competencies for the role.
- Understanding of device physics relevant to IC layout.
- Knowledge of material characteristics that affect chip design performance.
- Familiarity with electron microscopy (SEM) techniques.
- Understanding of thermodynamics effects on leakage and device behavior.
- Proficiency with layout implementation, routing, and power network design (PDN).
- Experience with LVS, DRC, and foundry rule compliance and verification flows.
- Ability to produce manufacturable layouts that meet performance and schedule targets and to document designs clearly.
- Strong collaboration skills for cross-functional engineering interaction.
Education Requirements
Employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Material Engineering, or a related field. No other degrees, certifications, or explicit equivalent-experience language were specified in the source.
