Job Title
Layout Engineer
Role Summary
Layout Engineer in the Library Group (Central Engineering) responsible for physical layout of standard cells, memory and I/O. Deliver high-quality layout that meets process rules, verification requirements, and project schedules.
Experience Level
Mid-level β minimum 3β4 years of hands-on layout experience in submicron CMOS processes.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include planning, executing and verifying physical layouts to meet design and process requirements.
- Apply layout guidelines for standard cells, memories and I/O, and follow new process rules and technical requirements.
- Perform floor-planning and layout timing/schedule planning for assigned blocks.
- Complete layout and verification (LVS, DRC, ERC, antenna, electromigration) within planned schedule with minimal supervision.
- Integrate hierarchical layouts and support chip integration tasks.
- Document layout methodology, flow and guidelines; lead technology-review activities for new process nodes.
- Collaborate with library team members and cross-functional engineers; communicate layout issues and solutions clearly.
- Mentor or train junior engineers when required and support project management tasks.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience are listed first; desirable skills are noted as nice-to-have.
-
Must-have: Minimum 3β4 years layout experience with strong knowledge of submicron processes (examples: 16nm, 7nm, 5nm, 3nm, 2nm, 1.4nm).
-
Must-have: Proficient with Cadence layout (Virtuoso variants) and Cadence schematic capture.
-
Must-have: Experience with physical verification tools such as Calibre and Hercules; experience in LVS, DRC, ERC, antenna and electromigration checks.
-
Must-have: Experience in digital layout (standard cells, memory, I/O); good floor-planning and hierarchy layout skills for chip integration.
-
Nice-to-have: Analog layout experience, SKILL or other scripting ability, memory compiler experience.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience leading or training junior engineers and demonstrated project management/leadership capability.
