Job Title
Layout Engineer
Role Summary
Design and develop block-level and full-chip layouts for analog, mixed-signal, and custom digital blocks in advanced CMOS processes. Provide layout verification support, quality checks, and integration with global engineering teams to meet project schedules.
Experience Level
Mid-level β typically 3 to 7 years of relevant layout experience.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include producing high-quality layout deliverables, verification, and coordination across teams.
- Create and deliver block-level layouts for analog, mixed-signal, and custom digital blocks on schedule.
- Perform physical verification checks such as LVS, DRC, antenna checks and perform layout quality reviews.
- Estimate area/time, plan and execute layout tasks across multiple concurrent projects.
- Coordinate and communicate with global engineering teams for integration and tape-out readiness.
- Document layout work and support project-management activities.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; optional items noted.
-
Must: 3β7 years of analog/custom layout experience in advanced CMOS (Planar, FinFET).
-
Must: Hands-on experience with Cadence VLE/VXL and Mentor Graphics Calibre DRC/LVS.
-
Must: Experience laying out critical analog blocks (temperature sensor, PLL, ADC, DAC, LDO, bandgap, reference generators, charge pump, current mirrors, comparators, differential amplifiers).
-
Must: Solid understanding of analog layout fundamentals (matching, electromigration, latch-up, coupling, crosstalk, IR-drop, device parasitics) and how layout affects speed, capacitance, power, and area.
-
Must: Ability to work with build constraints, hierarchy, and memory-design architectures; strong problem-solving skills in physical verification of custom layout.
-
Nice-to-have: Multiple tape-out support experience and familiarity with AI tools to assist day-to-day tasks.
-
Other: Good verbal and written communication skills.
Education Requirements
BE or MTech in Electronics/VLSI Engineering, or equivalent technical education/experience.
