Job Title

Layout Engineer

Role Summary

Develop and prepare multi-dimensional layouts and detailed drawings of semiconductor devices from schematics and related geometry. Use CAD and computerized layout tools to produce tapeout-ready layouts, perform dimensional checks, write specifications, and verify completed drawings and digitized plots.

Deliver accurate, manufacturable layouts that support product development and fabrication timelines.

Experience Level

Mid-level (Minimum 5 years of related layout or IC design experience)

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Translate schematics and geometry into multi-dimensional semiconductor layouts using CAD tools.
  • Create detailed drawings, artwork, and digitized plots required for fabrication.
  • Check dimensions, write and maintain specifications, and verify completed layouts.
  • Review and validate layouts against design rules and offline layout leveling charts.
  • Collaborate with design engineers and stakeholders to resolve layout issues.
  • Manage tasks to meet project schedules and support handoff to manufacturing.

Requirements

Key qualifications and skills.

  • Must-have: Minimum 5 years of layout experience in semiconductor IC development.
  • Must-have: Proficiency with CAD or other computerized layout tools used for semiconductor device layout.
  • Must-have: Strong attention to detail for dimensional checks and verification of drawings.
  • Nice-to-have: Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills; effective verbal and written communication.
  • Nice-to-have: Ability to quickly learn new systems and processes, manage time, and work effectively in cross-functional teams.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline is typically required.
