Layout Engineer

Role Summary

Join the design team to develop layouts for photonic integrated circuits. Maintain layout infrastructure, produce fabrication-ready layouts, and implement design rules and verification flows to support mask data preparation.

Work closely with designers to ensure layouts meet manufacturing and verification requirements.

Responsibilities

The role focuses on layout development, verification, and mask flow support.

  • Maintain and develop layout libraries and workflows in Synopsys.
  • Translate photonic device and circuit designs into fabrication-ready layouts.
  • Run DRC and LVS; investigate and resolve violations and off-grid errors.
  • Implement and validate new design rules and verification flows.
  • Assemble layouts and support mask-data preparation and mask flow.
  • Support designers and troubleshoot layout issues.

Requirements

Key technical skills and tools required or preferred.

  • Must-have: Strong Python programming skills.
  • Must-have: Understanding of integrated-circuit design and layout verification (DRC, LVS, mask-data preparation).
  • Must-have: Experience with physical verification tools (e.g. Synopsys IC Validator or comparable) and KLayout.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with photonic layout tools, ideally Synopsys OptoCompiler.
  • Nice-to-have: Knowledge of photonic integrated circuits.

Education Requirements

Degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Photonics, or a related technical field.
