Job Title

Layout Designer

Role Summary

The Layout Designer develops and prepares multi-dimensional semiconductor layouts from schematics and provided geometry, verifies data integrity, and leads major block developments. This role collaborates with design, verification, CAD, and test teams across global sites to deliver production-ready layouts and improve layout efficiency.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Requires at least 5 years of semiconductor layout design experience (see Education Requirements for degree expectations).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include detailed layout development, verification, and process improvement.

  • Produce detailed layout drawings from schematics and design geometry.
  • Lead delivery of major blocks and product revisions; coordinate schedules and resources to meet deadlines.
  • Perform physical verification analysis and debug layout issues to root cause.
  • Develop and apply custom layout, floor‑planning, signal‑planning and power‑planning methodologies.
  • Improve layout efficiency through automation and new methodologies.
  • Collaborate across globally distributed design/layout teams and other functions (TD, design, verification, CAD).
  • Maintain design-rule compliance and quality-controlled results.
  • Prioritize tasks and manage time to meet project milestones.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items listed where applicable.

  • 5+ years of direct semiconductor layout design experience.
  • Strong knowledge of EDA tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, Synopsys, and Calibre.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and debug problems via root-cause analysis and implement effective solutions.
  • Skilled in layout methodologies including custom layout, floor‑planning, signal‑planning and power‑planning.
  • In-depth understanding of design rules and experience delivering high-quality layouts.
  • Strong physical verification analysis and debugging skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with or willingness to learn Agentic AI to improve workload efficiency.

Education Requirements

Associate of Science (AS) in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field plus 5+ years of semiconductor layout design experience. (No alternative degree or equivalent-experience language was specified in the source.)
