Job Title

Layout Designer

Role Summary

The Layout Designer designs and implements integrated circuit (IC) layouts of moderate complexity for analog and mixed-signal products. The role works within an Ottawa engineering team, collaborating with cross-functional groups to deliver timing-correct, manufacturable layouts.

Work contributes to ADI's product development in areas such as timing extraction, verification, and process-aware layout implementation.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Preferred 2+ years of relevant IC layout or semiconductor industry experience.

Responsibilities

The main responsibilities include:

  • Design and implement integrated circuit layouts of moderate complexity.
  • Resolve moderately complex layout problems requiring analysis.
  • Perform timing extraction and timing analysis for layouts.
  • Use EDA layout and verification tools and increase proficiency over time.
  • Work to defined objectives with moderate guidance and handle short-term projects with clear deliverables.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams and may provide coaching to junior engineers.
  • Ensure layouts meet manufacturability and process integration requirements.
  • Travel as required (approximately 10% of the time).

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and professional attributes:

  • Competence in IC layout design principles and implementation.
  • Proficiency with CMOS layout, timing analysis, and common EDA tools.
  • Working knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing processes.
  • Business awareness: understand how individual work impacts product and business objectives.
  • Professional communication skills to coordinate with cross-functional teams.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Preferred: 2+ years of relevant industry experience.
