Job Title
Layout Design Staff Engineer
Role Summary
Design and deliver complex custom IC layouts for analog, mixed-signal, and digital blocks, owning layout deliverables for critical IP and subsystems through tape-out. Work closely with circuit designers, verification, and process teams to meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability targets.
You will join the Synopsys Armenia engineering team focused on layout implementation, verification, and process improvement for high-performance semiconductor products.
Experience Level
Senior β 5+ years of hands-on experience in custom IC layout design.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Design and develop custom layout for complex analog, mixed-signal, and digital blocks, ensuring compliance with design rules and manufacturability constraints.
- Perform physical verification (DRC, LVS, PERC) and resolve violations in coordination with process teams to close out tape-out readiness.
- Collaborate with circuit designers to optimize layouts for power, performance, area, and reliability.
- Own layout deliverables for entire subsystems or critical IP blocks and manage timelines to meet tape-out schedules.
- Participate in design reviews, identify layout risks early, and propose solutions that balance technical tradeoffs.
- Drive process improvements, including automation scripts, methodology updates, and best-practice documentation.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- 5+ years of hands-on custom IC layout experience with demonstrated delivery through tape-out.
- Strong proficiency with industry-standard layout and verification tools (e.g., Cadence Virtuoso, Mentor/Siemens Calibre, or equivalent).
- Deep understanding of semiconductor manufacturing processes, design rules, and tape-out requirements including parasitic extraction.
- Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex layout issues affecting performance, reliability, or manufacturability.
- Experience working cross-functionally with circuit designers, verification engineers, and project managers.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience developing automation scripts and improving layout methodology and team workflows.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related technical field; advanced degree (MS/PhD) is a plus. (No explicit equivalent-experience language provided.)
