Layout and Tape-Out Engineer

Role Summary

Responsible for end-to-end tape-out execution for Gallium Nitride (GaN) technologies, supporting multiple concurrent tape-out flows and ensuring accurate, high-quality mask data delivery. Works with design, process, and mask vendors and coordinates with global and Japanese-speaking stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include layout support, mask data preparation, and managing tape-out operations.

• Develop and verify PCM (Process Control Monitor) layouts and alignment mark layouts per lithography/process requirements.
• Generate, validate, and optimize stepper reticle 1:1 aligner mask layouts.
• Run Design Rule Checks (DRC) and mask data validation; perform MEBES data checks for mask write readiness.
• Execute mask data generation workflows and perform mask data verification and signoff to foundry requirements.
• Manage tape-out submissions, mask ordering, and track purchase orders; coordinate scheduling and delivery with mask vendors.
• Support tape-out operations across multiple flows and ensure schedule adherence and quality deliverables.
• Collaborate with global and Japanese-speaking teams to resolve issues and align tape-out activities.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and working attributes; preferred items listed when applicable.

• Must-have: Proficiency with layout and verification tools such as Cadence and Calibre; experience in Unix/Linux environments.
• Must-have: Familiarity with mask data preparation flows and mask house interactions; basic knowledge of mask data formats (e.g., MEBES/JobDeck).
• Must-have: Japanese language proficiency; good English communication skills for collaboration with internal English-speaking teams.
• Must-have: Strong attention to detail, data accuracy, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in parallel.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with LEDIT, foundry tape-out processes, and working in cross-functional global engineering environments.
• Nice-to-have: Proven cross-cultural communication skills and proactive problem-solving mindset.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field.
