Job Title

Lab Engineering Technician

Role Summary

Support engineering teams in an R&D packaging laboratory by preparing samples, executing experimental measurements, maintaining and calibrating lab equipment, and assisting with development of tools, fixtures, and test methods. Work is hands-on and requires close collaboration with engineers and other technicians.

Priorities can change frequently; the role requires attention to detail, flexibility, good judgment, and clear documentation of experimental results.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Early Career — requires a minimum of 1+ year of laboratory experience. Candidates may qualify through a variety of education and hands-on experience combinations (see Education Requirements).

Responsibilities

Main responsibilities include supporting experiments, sample preparation, equipment maintenance, and documentation.

  • Prepare and fabricate samples using soldering, epoxy bonding, cutting, polishing, spray painting, sensor attachment, and other lab techniques.
  • Execute experimental measurements using established methods and assist in developing new measurement approaches.
  • Support engineers in building and modifying custom fixtures, tools, and lab setups for prototypes and development work.
  • Accurately record, organize, and document test results, observations, and experimental conditions.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation such as SOPs, work instructions, and test notes.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, calibration support, and basic troubleshooting on assigned lab equipment.
  • Assist in resolving non-standard issues through observation, judgment, and collaboration with engineers.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1+ year of laboratory experience.
  • Experience with equipment maintenance or hands-on manufacturing is relevant to the role.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to document procedures and results clearly.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team and adapt quickly to new tools and methods.
  • Willingness to work on-site full time.
  • Position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Nice-to-have:

  • Semiconductor technical workforce experience.
  • Familiarity with optical microscopes, interferometers, confocal microscopes, CMMs, multimeters, thermocouples, polishers, and table-top saws.
  • Experience with mechanical test systems (MTS, Instron) and basic machining (lathe, mill).
  • CAD experience (especially SolidWorks) and experience building/modifying custom fixtures.
  • Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); ability to analyze data in Excel.

Education Requirements

One of the following education/experience combinations is required: Associate degree in a technical field plus 2+ years equipment maintenance experience; Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field; High School Diploma/GED plus 4+ years hands-on manufacturing experience; High School Diploma/GED plus 4+ years military technical experience; High School Diploma/GED plus 2.5+ years equipment maintenance experience; or High School Diploma/GED plus a 3+ year technical/trade certification. Additionally, candidates must have at least 1+ year of laboratory experience. Equivalent practical experience is accepted per the combinations listed.
