Junior Software Engineer, Debugger for Secure Embedded Systems (m/f/d)

Role Summary

Develop and maintain debugger and related tooling for secure embedded microcontrollers based on RISC-V architectures. Work within a software team to deliver debugging, trace, and code-coverage capabilities that support NXP hardware and firmware development.

The role involves collaborating with hardware and software teams, supporting customer-reported issues, and contributing to software quality and testing processes. Some assignments include security-related tasks and work that may be subject to security certification requirements.

Responsibilities

You will work with senior engineers across the development lifecycle to implement and maintain debugger and trace features for secure microcontrollers.

  • Participate in specification, development, testing, verification, documentation, and maintenance of debuggers for secure embedded microcontrollers.
  • Develop expertise in trace and code-coverage for secure embedded systems.
  • Analyze and resolve issues reported by internal HW/SW teams or detected by tests.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software customers to reproduce and fix defects.
  • Support continuous improvement of development, quality, and testing practices.
  • Perform security-conscious tasks potentially related to security certifications.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and attributes:

  • Practical understanding of embedded software development tools such as gdb or OpenOCD.
  • Knowledge of microcontroller architectures and embedded system behavior.
  • Programming experience in C, C++, and Python.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across technical domains, locations, and cultures; team-player attitude.
  • Reliable, security-conscious working style due to security-related responsibilities.

Nice-to-have:

  • Assembly programming experience.
  • Familiarity with RISC-V architecture.
  • Experience with JTAG interfaces and FPGA-based debug targets.
  • Experience with trace and code-coverage tooling.
  • Experience with Rust.

Education Requirements

University degree in electronics, applied mathematics, computer science, or a similar technical field was specified.
