Job Title
IP Functional Validation Engineer
Role Summary
Responsible for defining, developing and executing functional validation for accelerator IPs, covering internal IP behavior and integration with system-level features. Works across pre-silicon and post-silicon environments to validate functionality, debug failures, and close coverage gaps.
Collaborates with SoC, platform and system debug teams to develop validation methodologies, test infrastructure, and reports that improve IP quality and enable product integration.
Experience Level
Mid-level — requires approximately 3+ years of relevant industry experience in hardware/IP validation, test development, and system bring-up.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include planning, executing and reporting IP validation activities and collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve failures.
- Define and execute functional validation plans for accelerator IPs, including pre-silicon and post-silicon testing.
- Develop test cases, test benches and validation methodologies; review design changes for validation impact.
- Perform silicon debug, root-cause analysis, failure triage and resolution for IP-related issues.
- Implement and maintain validation infrastructure: performance monitors, behavioral checkers, and state-space coverage tools.
- Develop and optimize automation scripts and test frameworks to increase validation coverage and efficiency.
- Use lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, BERTs, PCIe analyzers, programmable power supplies) for measurements and debug.
- Publish validation results and reports; communicate findings to design, firmware and product teams.
- Work with platform and SoC validation teams to reproduce and debug issues found in other environments and to close coverage gaps.
Requirements
Minimum technical skills and experience required for the role; preferred items indicate additional advantages.
-
Must-have: A minimum of 3+ years of experience in hardware/IP validation or related roles.
-
Must-have: Experience developing test plans and test cases; experience developing in a Linux/UNIX environment.
-
Must-have: Proficiency in object-oriented programming and scripting in one or more of: C, C++, C#, Perl, Python.
-
Must-have: Hands-on experience with hardware/system bring-up and lab debug tools; familiarity with JTAG and debug access tools.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with test automation frameworks, emulation-based debugging, and system clock/reset and concurrency testing.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with PCIe and CXL protocol testing and high-speed interface validation.
-
Nice-to-have: Familiarity with advanced lab equipment and measurement techniques (high-speed oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, BERTs, protocol analyzers).
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Preferred: Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field. (Degrees and fields explicitly listed in the posting.)
