IP Design - Staff Engineer
QualcommJob Title
Staff Engineer, IP Design
Role Summary
Lead IP and SoC front-end design and micro-architecture for complex SoC projects. Coordinate architecture, RTL development, verification, synthesis and physical teams to deliver IP blocks and ensure design convergence.
Experience Level
Senior - typically 8+ years of IP/SoC design and micro-architecture experience; the posting references 8+ years and provides degree-linked minimums in Education Requirements.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and implement digital IP and SoC RTL (Verilog) and micro-architecture.
- Architect and integrate interconnects and coherency (CHI, AHB, AXI, ACE, ACE-Lite, NoC).
- Drive synthesis, timing closure, and design convergence across architecture, micro-architecture, and physical implementation.
- Plan and track front-end design tasks and SoC dependencies; manage cross-team delivery schedules.
- Drive project milestones across design, verification, and physical implementation teams.
- Participate in verification, formal verification, DFT activities, and silicon bring-up/debug.
- Work with EDA flows and quality checks (lint, CDC, PLDRC, CLP).
- Mentor engineers and communicate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Extensive IP/SoC design and micro-architecture experience at a senior level.
- Strong digital design and RTL development skills; hands-on Verilog experience.
- Experience with interconnect protocols (CHI, AHB, AXI, ACE, ACE-Lite, NoC).
- Familiarity with multi-core ARMv8/v9 CPU architecture, coherency protocols and virtualization.
- Experience with synthesis toolchains (Synopsys Design Compiler/DCG), timing closure and physical-design interactions.
- Practical experience with verification methodologies, DFT and formal verification; silicon debug experience.
- Working knowledge of lint, CDC, PLDRC, CLP and related flows.
- Proven ability to manage dependencies, plan front-end tasks, and drive cross-functional milestones; strong communication and leadership skills.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field with 4+ years of hardware engineering experience; OR Master's in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field with 3+ years of hardware engineering experience; OR PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field with 2+ years of hardware engineering experience. The posting also references 8+ years of total experience for this role.
