IP Design Engineer Intern

Role Summary

Internship position supporting IP block design activities within the Silicon and Platform Engineering Group (SPE). The intern will help develop and maintain flows, tools, and methodologies, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to product development tasks.

This is a full-time, six-month industry immersion internship eligible for a hybrid work model based at the San Jose, Costa Rica site.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Intern). Student or recent graduate; internship intended for individuals with academic exposure or equivalent practical experience. No specific professional experience required.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include hands-on engineering support, tool and flow development, and collaboration with engineering teams.

• Participate in hands-on projects aligned with product development and IP design objectives.
• Support IP block design activities by developing and maintaining flows, tools, and methodologies.
• Write and maintain code and scripts to automate tasks and integrate tools into CI/CD workflows.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver features and support business initiatives.
• Engage in code review, testing, and validation of solutions before release.
• Undertake professional development activities to build practical engineering skills.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and local eligibility are listed below; preferred skills are noted separately.

• Must-have:
  • Proficiency in Python (data types, control flow, functions, object-oriented programming).
  • Working knowledge of Git and CI/CD workflows (e.g., GitHub Actions).
  • Basic knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL or SQLite) and basic SQL.
  • Experience using AI coding tools (e.g., Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) and ability to evaluate their output.
  • Intermediate to advanced English (verbal and written).
  • Unrestricted permanent right to work in Costa Rica.
• Nice-to-have:
  • Experience with Django REST Framework (serializers, viewsets, token-authenticated APIs).
  • Ability to build and style web pages using HTML and CSS; familiarity with Tailwind CSS and Alpine.js.
  • Exposure to OAuth2/SSO authentication flows and REST API consumption (authentication, pagination, JSON handling).
  • Exposure to PostgreSQL query tuning, indexes, joins, and migrations.
  • Familiarity with task tracking tools such as Jira or GitHub Issues.
  • Experience writing effective prompts and using agentic AI coding tools responsibly; familiarity with custom Copilot instructions or agent configurations.

Education Requirements

Enrolled in or recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field. Equivalent preparation via relevant coursework, internships, or practical experience is acceptable.
