Job Title

Intern, mNAND System Architecture

Role Summary

Intern on Micron's System Architecture team focusing on managed NAND (mNAND) technologies such as eMMC and UFS on Android/Linux platforms. The role supports characterization, system and firmware modeling, and platform integration to inform next-generation embedded storage designs.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship. Candidates should be near graduation or recently graduated (less than 1 year of post-graduation experience).

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Run characterizations on Android platforms (phones and development boards).
  • Develop and run system and mNAND architecture models; provide configuration and tradeoff analysis for future designs.
  • Enable and modify system platforms (mobile phones and automotive development boards) to exercise storage features.
  • Run benchmarks and analyze performance data.
  • Design automated kernel logging and diagnostic captures (dmesg, kmsg, ftrace, etc.).
  • Investigate kernel drivers and assess the impact of new features.
  • Build and configure Linux kernels to enable or disable mNAND features.

Requirements

Minimum technical skills required and preferred additions.

  • Must-have: Bash shell scripting; Python with data analysis libraries (e.g., numpy, pandas, polars); programming in C; basic knowledge of Android architecture; ability to work with Linux kernel builds and diagnostics.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with lab tools (protocol analyzers, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, JTAG/ICE), familiarity with NAND/SSD/eMMC/UFS storage technologies, firmware development and validation experience, and familiarity with modern protocol analysis and software development methodologies. Knowledge of simulators used in autonomous systems (e.g., CARLA, ISAAC) is a plus.

Education Requirements

Master's degree or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or equivalent technical field. Applicants should be near graduation or recently graduated (less than one year). Equivalent practical experience may be acceptable.
