Work includes collaboration with Metrology and process engineers across sites and may involve Optical Thin Films, Scatterometry/OCD, X-Ray, Overlay/Registration, Profiling/Topography, FIB, or CDSEM projects.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for current students. Candidates should be enrolled in graduate study (see Education Requirements) and have limited industry experience; suitable for co-op (six months) or summer (three months) internships.

Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities for assigned projects.

  • Complete two to three metrology development projects, document results, and present findings to the Metrology team.
  • Plan, design, and execute experiments in a semiconductor cleanroom.
  • Analyze top-down and cross-sectional metrology data using tools such as Excel and JMP.
  • Develop and validate new metrology techniques to meet device roadmap requirements.
  • Collaborate with process development and integration teams to optimize measurements across device flows and layer stacks.
  • Evaluate new metrology tools for accuracy, precision, and cost of ownership for R&D and high-volume manufacturing.
  • Use approved AI/ML and analytics tools in accordance with company policies to support research and analysis.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed where applicable.

  • Deep understanding of optical metrology, overlay/registration, profiling/topography, X‑ray, electrical metrology, or related measurement techniques.
  • Experience applying data science, analytics, or ML techniques to large metrology datasets.
  • Process and equipment familiarity or coursework in instrumentation, calibration procedures, and semiconductor processing; knowledge of diffusion, CVD, etch, and lithography.
  • Experience or coursework related to semiconductor device process flows (e.g., NAND, DRAM).
  • Strong data analysis skills, attention to detail, and ability to summarize technical results clearly.
  • Preferred: proficiency with JMP and MS Office; programming experience in MATLAB, Python, C, or C++.
  • Preferred: experience using AI/ML tools for data analysis, modeling, or workflow automation; ability to critically evaluate AI outputs.
  • Ability to work independently, collaborate in teams, and lead small project-level efforts.
