Advanced Micro DevicesJob Title
Intern — Development of Optical Characterization Methods for Electro‑Optical Advanced Packaging Technologies
Role Summary
Internship in the Singapore Optics Lab to qualify optical and laser characterization instruments and establish repeatable test methods for electro‑optical devices and packaging-related optical links.
The role involves hands-on lab work, instrument checkout, measurement method development, basic automation and data analysis, and delivery of a concise technical report and reusable scripts.
Experience Level
Internship for current university students based in Singapore.
Responsibilities
Primary deliverables and day-to-day activities:
- Develop and validate measurement workflows for optical power, insertion loss, return loss, polarization extinction ratio, wavelength/attenuation, switching paths, thermal cycling, and electro‑optical response.
- Set up and qualify selected optics and laser instruments; perform equipment checkout, calibration checks, and safety procedures.
- Execute measurements, review data, produce plots and basic statistical checks, and identify measurement variation and method limitations.
- Automate data capture and analysis where practical using Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or vendor software; maintain version-controlled scripts and test records.
- Document results in test reports, standard work instructions, and a final technical summary with recommendations for future lab users.
Requirements
Required skills and attributes (must-have vs nice-to-have):
- Must-have: Careful, methodical lab practices; ability to follow safety and equipment limits; clear written and verbal communication; attention to data integrity and documentation.
- Must-have: Basic electrical/electronic lab skills (oscilloscopes, power supplies, signal integrity awareness) and fundamentals of optics/photonic measurements.
- Must-have: Ability to analyze measurement data and generate clear engineering plots.
- Must-have: Programming or data-analysis experience in Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar; familiarity processing CSV files and automating data capture.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with semiconductor packaging, electro‑optical testing, thermal control, and instrument control interfaces; vendor collaboration experience.
Education Requirements
Current students at Singapore-based universities. The posting specifically targets graduate students (PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Photonics/Optics, but also indicates suitability for undergraduate students; candidates should be enrolled in a university program in Singapore.
